NBAMessi: World Cup Winner Branded ‘Sewer Rat’ and ‘Hormonal Midget’ by Ex Barcelona Chief
- Lionel Messi was the subject of some unsavoury messages by a former board member of Barcelona
- Roman Gomez Ponti, then head of the club’s legal services, was, reportedly, the person behind the message
- In the scathing attack, Ponti suggested the club should leak details on Messi's contract
Lionel Messi was labelled a 'sewer rat and hormonal dw@rf' by a former Barcelona executive, according to a sensational report emerging out of Spain.
Messi ended his long association with Barcelona, spanning 21 years, on an emotional note before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
The 35-year-old, who helped Argentina to win its third World Cup, is said to have been the target of shocking insults from former Barcelona board member Roman Gomez Ponti.
According to Catalan paper El Periodico, private phone messages from a group chat involving some of the club’s one-time directors and executives referred to Messi as a ‘sewer rat’ and a ‘hormone-treated dw@rf’.

The chat was allegedly between Ponti, then head of the club’s legal services, ex-president Josep Bartomeu, former general director Oscar Grau, ex-financial director Pancho Schroder and ex-directory of Strategy and Innovation Javier Sobrino, per Indian Express.
Police discovered an email sent by Ponti in March 2020 in which he suggests the club should leak the contract details of Lionel Messi.
"Barto really, you can’t be such a good person with this sewer rat.
"The club has given him everything when he has dedicated himself to dictating over signings, contract renewals, sponsors etc.
It continues: “I could never do it but to the figures in the contract, you also have to add Pinto, Suarez’s renewal, Jordi Alba’s and the commission for Ansu Fati’s renewal (Rodrigo Messi, agent? But if he doesn’t know how to even read and his partner is a drug dealer).
Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer: Is CR7 leaving Manchester United and which clubs are likely to acquire him?
FootballPonti, continuing with his fury at Messi revealed the damages suffered by himself and other employers due to the now PSG superstar.
“And above all the accumulation of blackmail and rudeness that the club and those of us who work[ed at the club] have suffered from this hormonal dw@rf who owes Barça his life… ah!
Laporta insists Messi leaving was the best
Sports Brief earlier reported that Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said that not keeping Lionel Messi at Camp Nou was best for the club, as they were on the verge of financial ruin.
La Blaugrana were desperate to renew the 35-year-old's contract, following the expiration of his previous deal.
However, financial struggles in Catalonia made it impossible for the dribbling magician to extend his stay with the La Liga heavyweights.
