Barcelona fans had something to celebrate before the club’s La Liga derby against Espanyol after Robert Lewandowski and Gavi presented their awards at Camp Nou.

Lewandowski recently won the 2022 Gerd Müller Award as the world’s best striker while Gavi was also voted as the best young player during the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris.

Both Lewandowski and Gavi presented their special awards in front of a packed Camp Nou crowd before playing out a disappointing 1-1 draw against Espanyol.

Lewandowski scored an astonishing 50 goals in 43 appearances for Bayern Munich and has already shown his goalscoring prowess since joining Barça this season, with 14 goals.

Whereas Gavi joined prestigious names like Lionel Messi, Raheem Sterling, Erling Haaland and Paul Pogba, as well as Pedri to have won the Golden Boy award.

Barcelona’s fiery derby ends in draw

Meanwhile, A chaotic Barcelona derby ended 1-1 at the Camp Nou on Saturday as a penalty from Joselu cancelled out a first-goal from Marcos Alonso, Eurosport reports.

In the tense game there were two red cards, one for Jordi Alba of Barcelona and one for Espanyol’s Vinicius Souza after some considerable confusion.

Barcelona however leapfrogged Real Madrid on top of the La Liga table with the draw as the Catalans have now garnered 38 points with the Spanish champions but have a better goal difference.

Barcelona fans furious with Xavi

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Xavi has received some criticism from Barcelona fans following his decision to start Marcos Alonso in the club’s local derby against Espanyol.

Alonso will play in a four-man defence for Barcelona that includes Andreas Christensen, Sergi Roberto, and Jordi Alba.

Fans took to social media to express their displeasure at the Barcelona manager after the starting line-up for the crucial game was revealed on the club’s twitter page.
