What's the Golden Boy award?

The Golden Boy award was created in 2003 by Italian media outlet Tuttosport, to celebrate Europe's best young player aged under 21 in a calendar year.

Rafael van der Vaart won the prize in its first edition, followed by Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi and Cesc Fabregas.

Other past winners include Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli, Mario Gotze, Paul Pogba and Isco.

The award is mainly voted by selected sports journalists.

Davies slams Ballon d’Or organisers

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies has taken a swipe at France Football, organisers of the Ballon d'Or awards, for 'robbing' his teammate Jamal Musiala.

The 21-year-old defender took to Twitter to register his displeasure with the award organisers, for bypassing Musiala and naming Gavi as the Kopa Trophy winner. Davies also touted his teammate as one to win the most coveted prize in the near future.

Musiala has stolen the limelight since he debuted with Bayern Munich last season and has continued in red-hot fashion this term.
