The La Liga match between Cadiz and Barcelona on Saturday evening was paused after a medical emergency in the crowd.

The unfortunate incident occurred with around eight minutes of normal time to play at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.

With Barcelona leading 2-0, a Cadiz fan suffered a cardiac arrest in the stands, which led to the match being halted immediately.

As the paramedics rushed to treat the fan in need of urgent medical attention, Cadiz goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma sprinted towards the area of the stadium where the incident was unfolding.

Ledesma was spotted running with a defibrillator in his hands to hand to the paramedics.

The match was stopped for close to 20 minutes as the stadium fell silent after the incident.

Players from both sides were seen praying on the pitch as staff and coaches from the bench watched on concerned.

The on-field action took secondary importance amid the medical situation. The Blaugrana went on to win 4-0 after the restart.

Four second-half goals from Frenkie de Jong, Robert Lewandowski, Ansu Fati, and Ousmane Dembele propelled the Catalan giants to their 4th consecutive La Liga victory.

The victory takes Barcelona to the top of the La Liga table with 13 points from 5 games, one point more than their arch-rivals Real Madrid who have played a game less.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Barcelona’s financial woes did not stop the Catalan club from being ranked among the top most valuable football clubs in the world.

The Catalans have been ranked as the second most valuable football club in the world by American business magazine Forbes in its latest publication.

Barcelona has a valuation of $5 billion and comes second just behind La Liga arch-rivals Real Madrid who has a valuation of $5.1 billion.
