Chelsea plot move for Premier League star to replace Antonio Rudiger
FootballBarcelona Targeting Talented Manchester City Midfielder in Shock Transfer
- Manchester City could potentially lose Bernardo Silva to Barcelona in the summer
- Barcelona are highly interested in the 27-year old, who joined City from Monaco in 2017
- The move could entail Manchester City acquiring Frankie de Jong in a swap deal
Barcelona have set their sights on Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva as they continue to revamp ahead of next season.
Bernardo Silva has been on the radar of the Catalan giants from last season, and there were reports that strongly suggested he could make the move to Spain last summer, but he opted to stick with the Citizens.
At Manchester City this season, he has been in fairly decent form, despite not being a regular starter, and has racked up 11 goals and five assists.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are highly interested in the services of the 27-year old and the deal could be initiated in several different ways.
The De Jong factor
Firstly, Barcelona could opt for a swap deal and offer Manchester City de Jong, a midfielder who Pep Guardiola admires very much.
Guardiola almost signed De Jong three years ago, but was beaten by Barcelona to the Dutchman’s signature.
Barcelona have slapped a £58million price tag on de Jong, but with the club’s financial struggles, they may opt for a swap deal to acquire Bernardo Silva.
With the impending exit of Fernandinho, Barcelona are set to have a hole in midfield, which could well be filled by De Jong.
Guardiola’s sides are usually heavily reliant on a strong midfield, and this could imply that he is ready to spend on another midfielder in the summer.
Guardiola on Man City’s Champions League exit
Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported of Pep Guardiola’s brave sentiments in the wake of Manchester City’s Champions League exit.
Guardiola refused to back claims that the defeat at Madrid was a failure on Manchester City’s part.
According to Guardiola, Liverpool and Real Madrid both deserved to be in the final, and Manchester City would keep trying to win the competition next season.
