  • Aubameyang was on the scoresheet once again as Barcelona upped the style against Napoli in the Europa League
  • The Catalan giants brushed off their Italian opponents 4-2 to win the tie 5-3 on aggregate as they booked their spot in the last 16
  • After Aubameyang’s latest goal, sections of Barca fans took to social media to taunt Arsenal for letting go of the Gabonese talent

Barcelona fans were keen to ‘thank’ Arsenal, albeit sarcastically, after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put up another masterful performance on Thursday, February 24.

Aubameyang, who arrived at Barcelona on a free transfer from Arsenal, scored the final goal of the night as Barcelona saw off Napoli 4-2 in the Europa League.

Thanks to the Gabon international’s heroics, Barcelona advanced to the last 16 of the competition, and are now considered heavy favourites to win it.

Following his latest performance in a Barcelona shirt, the Catalan fans could not help but taunt Arsenal for allowing such a talented player to walk away for free.

One fan said on social media: “Thank you @Arsenal for giving us Aubameyang for free.”
“Thank you arsenal, for that gift called Aubameyang.” Another added.
“Dear Arsenal, thank you for dashing us Aubameyang it was nice doing business with you. If Saka is too much for you to handle, dash him to us too.” Went another.

Auba’s downfall at Arsenal

Things went south for the 32-year old at Arsenal after he was axed from the squad following a disciplinary issue.

Mikel Arteta went on to strip the striker of captaincy, and for a better part of December, he was an isolated figure at Arsenal, despite being the club’s highest earner on a £300,000 weekly wage.

Aubameyang would eventually see his nightmare spell at Arsenal come to an end when Barcelona signed him for free, and he took a major pay cut to move to Spain.

He recently revealed that he did not think twice about joining Barcelona as it was an ‘opportunity that only comes once’.

The strike against Napoli was Aubameyang’s fourth in four games for Barcelona, and it follows an empathic hat trick he bagged over the weekend against Valencia.

Arsenal score late to beat Wolves

Meanwhile, Aubameyang’s former club Arsenal is not fairing too badly, particularly in the league.

As Sports Brief reported, the Gunners left it very late to claim a crucial 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league on Thursday.

An own goal from Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa helped the Gunners complete a remarkable comeback to climb to fifth on the log, one point behind Manchester United who have played two games more
