Banyana Banyana went into the tournament as favourites, seeking their first-ever WAFCON title. Tunisia were an unknown entity, but have proved that they will be a dangerous one for the tournament favourites tonight.

The winner of this tie will have the unenviable tie of taking on the hosts in the one semifinal, following Morocco's 2-1 victory over Botswana last night.

Banyana have had to deal with the crucial injury of star striker Thembi Kgatlana, while also enduring a Covid-19 outbreak.

Despite these setbacks, coach Desiree Ellis said, according to the Daily Maverick:

“We know why we are here. Losing Thembi was a huge blow. But we lost Gabriela Salgado before the tournament and people have stepped up. I know Thembi is a top-quality player, but it’s also an opportunity [for others] to step up. Other countries have lost players. Nigeria lost Asisat Oshoala, and Botswana lost a player as well.
“So, we just reminded the players why we are here. Thembi also reminded the players that the journey still continues. We know that our first aim is to qualify for the World Cup. That game is almost upon us.”

In the earlier quarterfinal, Cameroon will take on defending champions Nigeria in a mouth-watering West African "derby". Rising African women's football power Zambia awaits the winner of this fixture.

Hosts Morocco defeats Botswana comfortably in 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal

Hosts Morocco have advanced to the semifinals of the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

As reported on Sports Brief, despite a tight-looking 2-1 victory over a game Botswana, their quarterfinal win was a relatively comfortable one. They will now take on African women's football's rising giants Zambia in the first semifinal next Monday.

The other semifinal fixture will be decided after Cameroon and Nigeria, and South Africa and Tunisia collide later tonight in the remaining quarterfinals.
