Bafana Bafana's mediocrity has not been lost on CAF president Patrice Motsepe.
The South African has expressed sadness over his compatriots' poor state and worsening state over the years.
He told TimesLIVE:
“I have a duty to the rest of the continent but I am a South African and I am grateful to this country because it has done for me what I am. It makes me very sad because we should be there, we can be there and we will be there. “This country has some of the most talented football players among boys and girls and sometimes the real progress and success is not talking and responding the way I am doing now.

Bafana Bafana last qualified organically for a FIFA World Cup tournament in 2002, while also qualifying by virtue of being hosts in 2010. They've also struggled to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, last doing so in 2019.
