Arsenal fans could hardly hide their delight after watching Bukayo Saka embarrass Mykhailo Mudryk during England's Euro 2024 clash against Ukraine on Sunday night.

A section of the supporters went on to suggest that the Gunners dodged a bullet, having missed out on Mudryk's signature.

The Ukrainian forward was the subject of a fierce transfer battle during the January transfer window, pitting London rivals, Arsenal and Chelsea against each other.

However, The Sun reports that the Blues eventually snapped him up from Shakhtar Donetsk to form part of an array of stars who moved to Stamford Bridge during that period.

Arsenal fans celebrate Mudryk miss

Mudryk has gone on to endure a disastrous start to life with Chelsea and is yet to find the back of the net in seven appearances for the Graham Potter-tutored side.

The forward's woes in England continued on Sunday after he was floored by Saka during Ukraine's clash against the Three Lions.

This incident - and Mudryk's overall underwhelming performance - sparked reactions from Arsenal fans who declared they were glad to have missed out on the forward's signature.

One relieved Arsenal fan declared:

“I have never been so glad we didn’t get a player.”

Another reckoned:

“He’s bang average. Arsenal dodged a bullet.”

A third posed:

“Has he played football before he came to Chelsea?”

A fourth added:

“Overrated is an understatement. Chelsea should phone the police as they’ve been well and truly robbed.”

'Mudryk is key for Chelsea'

Sports Brief also reported on interim Ukraine boss, Ruslan Rotan urging Chelsea to be patient with the 22-year-old, suggesting Mudryk will be a key player next season.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk winger has struggled in his first seven games at Stamford Bridge despite a lightning cameo against Liverpool on his debut.

Mudryk has provided just one assist and is yet to score a goal in a Blues jersey in the games since, leaving fans wondering if his signing was worth all the fuss.
