Former Arsenal and Togo forward, Emmanuel Adebayor has announced his retirement from football.

The 39-year-old hung up his boots after a glittering career which spanned 22 years.

In a video shared on social media, Adebayor expressed gratitude to his fans, former teammates, and coaching teams.

The stunning video also shows clips from his playing days for Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham.

“From the highs to the lows, my career as a professional athlete has been an incredible journey,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Thank you to my fans for being there every step of the way. I am feeling so grateful for everything and I am excited for what is to come.”

Adebayor enjoyed a stellar career and was the 2008 Africa Player of the Year.

The former Togo captain lead his country to their one and only World Cup appearance in 2006.

He joined Arsenal from AS Monaco and instantly became a cult hero for the Gunners, but left after three years to join the Citizens.

Adebayor also spent time in Spain playing for Real Madrid.

At the twilight of his career, he played for Olimpia in Paraguay before spells in Turkey with Istanbul Basaksehir and Kayserispor.

The former Ghana international was finally laid to rest in his hometown in Ada in Accra on March 17, more than a month after his death.

Atsu was among the thousands of people tragically killed following the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City player is loving life after a successful football career, which he only recently retired from.
