  • Arsenal secured a dramatic 4-2 win over Aston Villa on Saturday, February 18 to move back to the top of the table
  • It almost looked like another frustrating afternoon for the Gunners before Jorginho’s wonder strike in stoppage time
  • Prior to that, Mikel Arteta was growing increasingly frustrated and had a moment where he mocked the referee

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was involved in a viral, meme-worthy moment during the clash against Aston Villa on Saturday, February 18.

The Gunners went into the game knowing a win would be enough to take them back to top spot at the expense of Manchester City.

But it proved to be a tough outing against Villa, managed by former Arsenal boss Unai Emery, whose side twice went ahead through Ollie Watkins and Phillipe Coutinho.

Irritated Arteta makes feelings known

In the 89th minute, Arteta, who was clearly not content with a draw, was keen on seeing his side attack, but referee Simon Hooper brought play back from a counter since the ball was still rolling from a dead-ball situation.

Following the referee’s decision, Arteta was seen mocking Hooper with the same gesture the match official did, and it left fans on social media in hysterics.

How the game went

Arsenal eventually emerged victorious thanks to two late goals including an own goal that stemmed from a stunning shot from January signing Jorginho.

Gabriel Martinelli tapped in late on to ensure a 4-2 victory which moved the Gunners back to the top of the log.
