Arsenal defender Pablo Mari has been left seriously injured after getting stabbed at a supermarket in Italy.

Reports from Italy claim Pablo Mari was stabbed at Carrefour in the Milanofiori di Assago at around 6:30 pm.

The defender, who is currently on loan at Serie A outfit AS Monza from Arsenal, is among five people who were stabbed in the harrowing incident.

Daily Mail reports that two of the six people who were stabbed are in less-serious condition, but Mari’s state is currently uncertain.

It has been claimed that a man, around the age of 46, picked up a knife from the shelves and started randomly stabbing people.

Witnesses who were around the scene claim they initially thought it was a robbery after seeing people running for their lives.

How it happened

Pablo Mari was reportedly with his wife and son in the shopping centre. The centre back was pushing his son on the shopping trolley.

It was then that he suffered a stabbing would from the back, suffering a ‘deep wound’ in his back.

Luckily for Mari, the knife missed all his vital organs and he is expected to be out of hospital by the end of the weekend.

Football insider Fabrizio Romano issued an update on Pablo Mari hours after the incident as he quoted the Monza CEO Adriano Galliani.

“Pablo Marì is not in danger as his injuries are not life-threatening. We hope to see him back soon”. Galliani was quoted by Romano.

Pablo Mari’s dad provides update

Sports Brief also reported on Pablo Mari’s father’s latest update on his son’s condition following the harrowing ordeal.

Mari's dad spoke to his son's partner, Veronica, who offered some positive news., according to the Mirror.

Veronica (the footballer's partner) has not told us how it happened, but she has told us that she has seen a person die in front of her. She has reassured us, confirming that they are fine and that everything has been a fright for them."

The defender is set to remain under medical care and is expected to undergo surgery to repair muscle damage.
