  • According to Knutsen, Mourinho came up with ‘100 excuses’ whenever his team suffered defeat

Kjetil Knutsen, the Bodo/Glimt manager, came up with the ultimate compliment for Mikel Arteta, although it came at the expense of Jose Mourinho.

Arteta’s Arsenal completed the double over their Norwegian counterparts as they followed up the 3-0 win a week earlier with a narrow 1-0 victory on Thursday, October 13.

Bukayo Saka scored the winner as he combined brilliantly with Albert Sambi Lokonga for a toe-poked effort which came off a defender to leave the Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper helpless.

Their crowd knew of this streak very well, as they were quite buoyant throughout the game, but that was not enough to cause an upset.

After the game, the home side’s manager Knutsen spoke with Norwegian outlet Dagbladet, cited on tbr football where he gave an interesting take on the difference between Arteta and Roma boss Jose Mourinho.

Fans with long memories will recall Bodo/Glimt facing Mourinho’s Roma in the UEFA Europa Conference League last season, where they famously won 6-1 on October 21 2021.

Asked whether he interacted with Arteta after the game, he said:

“No. He’s in the game and busy with his job.”
“It wasn’t like that when we met Roma. There were a hundred excuses then. It’s been a very different attitude with Arsenal.”
“That’s the way it should be, you have to have respect for each other."

Despite the crushing defeat to the Norwegian side last season, Jose Mourinho’s Roma went on to win the Europa Conference League.

Roma is currently in the Europa League, where they face an uphill task in qualifying for the next round after a 1-1 draw with Real Betis in their latest game.

Mourinho calls out 'failed sharks' of the Champions League

Earlier, Sports Brief reported of Mourinho’s interesting sentiments after his Roma side drew 1-1 with Real Betis in the Europa League.

The Italian giants are third in Group A, which is led by Betis, who have 10 points, while Bulgarian side Ludogorets sit second with seven points.

After the game on Thursday, Mourinho was asked whether Betis were among the favourites to win this year’s competition.

"I see them [Betis] as candidates, but the failed sharks of the Champions League will arrive, and they will come in hard," Mourinho said as quoted on Eurosport.com.
