  • Piers Morgan has launched a vicious attack on Mikel Arteta following Arsenal's 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United
  • The British journalist questioned Arsenal's decision to reward the club manager with a new deal earlier in the season, insisting he needed to be sacked instead
  • The loss dented the Gunners' chances of sealing a top-four finish at the end of the season, with the side needing a miracle to qualify for the Champions League

Arsenal diehard, Piers Morgan, has asked the club to get rid of Mikel Arteta following their 2-0 loss on Monday night, May 16, at Newcastle United.

Fresh from a 3-0 defeat during the North London derby, Arsenal were in desperate need of a victory against the Magpies to keep their top-four hopes alive.

However, the Gunners were unable to see off a brave Newcastle side who went on to condemn them to a comprehensive defeat.

Ben White's 55th-minute own goal and a strike from Bruno Guimares were all the home side needed to dent Arsenal's chances of sealing a Champions League spot.

Pier Morgan wants Mikel Arteta sacked

Morgan, an ardent Arsenal fan, has now asked the club to consider sacking Arteta as the manager.

In a series of tweets posted by the British journalist in the wake of the Newcastle defeat, Morgan went on to question Arsenal's decision to reward Arteta with a new deal earlier in the season.

“Absolutely pathetic. Why the hell did we give Arteta a contract before the season even finished? This will be his 12th League loss of the season, after spending £250m in 2yrs. That would normally get an Arsenal manager the sack, not a bloody new deal," he posted.
“We should have kept Aubameyang, got rid of Arteta & hired an experienced manager who can manage world-class talent & whose process we can actually trust," he added.

Mikel Arteta breaks silence after Newcastle loss

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Mikel Arteta has admitted Arsenal do not deserve to play in the Champions League following their 2-0 defeat against Newcastle.

The Gunners were in a pole position to seal a top-four finish - but defeats to Newcastle and Tottenham have seen that dream fizzle away.

Arteta's charges now need to beat Everton in their final game of the season and hope that Spurs lose to Norwich to stand a chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
