  • Arsenal is currently on the prowl for a striker to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who joined Barcelona in January
  • The Gunners have reportedly identified Benfica’s Darwin Nunez as the perfect replacement
  • Nunez, a Uruguayan, is thriving in Benfica, and has scored 36 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions
  • There is a chance Benfica could miss out on a Champions League spot as they sit third on the log, 6 points behind Sporting CP who occupy the final Champions League place

Arsenal have now set their sights on Benfica striker Darwin Nunez to replace the departed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners are now prioritizing their attack in terms of new signings after the Gabon international joined Barcelona and Alexandre Lacazette yet to agree on a new deal.

Mikel Arteta’s side failed to acquire the highly-rated Dusan Vlahovic in January, with the Serbian opting to join Juventus instead.

According to The Express, Arsenal have now turned their attention to the Benfica forward, who is showing a lot of promise in the Portuguese Primera Liga.

So far, the 22-year old has had a prolific season, netting 26 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.

Being a member of the Uruguay national team for the last two years, Nunez has been likened to legendary strikers like Edinson Cavani.

Two Premier League sides, Newcastle United and West Ham, have also been linked with Nunez but if all factors are considered, it will be difficult for the Uruguayan to resist a move to North London.

Arsenal are well on course to qualify for the Champions League and they are likely to tempt Nunez with a decent wage, having offloaded Aubameyang’s massive £250,000-a-week.

Harry Kane fuels Spurs exit speculation with latest statement

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported that Harry Kane might have dropped the clearest hint that his Tottenham future is not guaranteed in a recent interview.

The striker was recently asked about his future and while he did not necessarily rule out a move away from Tottenham, but said he was currently focused on ending the season on a high.

“My main focus is finishing this season, I can’t control what’s going to happen in the future," Kane said. "I want to be going into that tournament in the best form possible." The 28-year old said.
