FootballArsenal Youngster Wants to Take Aubameyang's No.14 Shirt After Striker's Exit
- Arsenal's iconic No.14 shirt is currently vacant after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's departure to Barcelona
- Gabriel Martinelli, who is currently sporting No.35 is now said to have expressed interest in having the shirt
- Martinelli will be hoping to fill the boots of Aubameyang who left the Gunners after falling out with Mikel Arteta
Arsenal ace Gabriel Martinelli reportedly wants to take over Aubameyang's No.14 shirt following the Gabonese's switch to Barcelona.
Auba sealed a sensational move to Camp Nou on transfer deadline day after his fallout with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
His exit came only weeks after he was stripped of the club's captaincy over what was described as a "disciplinary breach."
The incident saw him fail to feature for the north Londoners again until his departure for Barcelona.
Martinelli wants Auba's shirt
The Sun now reports Martinelli has shown interest in inheriting Auba's iconic No.14 shirt as he pushes to fill the shoes of the Gabon international.
The Brazilian youngster who currently spots No.35 has been in fine shape having scored four goals thus far despite limited game time.
Martinelli has previously declared his desire for Auba's iconic shirt, underscoring its significance at the Emirates.
"I want to follow in Aubameyang’s footsteps," Metro UK quoted Marinelli saying during an interview in 2021.
"He’s a captain, he wears the No.14 shirt, that is a symbol for this club and of course, I hope to be very successful at Arsenal," he added.
When can Martinelli get Auba's shirt?
Assuming Arsenal agrees to hand over the shirt to Martinelli, the promising striker has to wait until the end of the season to sport it.
According to Premier League rules, Martinelli cannot take over the number immediately.
