- Steve Khompela, one of the famed "Three Musketeers" at Mamelodi Sundowns is apparently being touted by Usuthu as its next coach
- Having sacked Benni McCarthy a month ago, the club appointed Brandon Truter as the interim coach until further notice
Amazulu is currently on the hunt for a permanent head coach, and an interesting target is rumoured to be in the club's cross-hairs.
Steve Khompela is apparently being lined up to take over at the Durban-based team starting next season. The current interim coach is Brandon Truter, was appointed a month ago after Benni McCarthy was shown the door.
Khompela is part of the currently unstoppable "Three Musketeers" at Mamelodi Sundowns, alongside Rhulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi. He'd previously coached Kaizer Chiefs, Golden Arrows and Free State Stars among other teams.
According to a Citizen source, Khompela is the favourite for the position, with his history as Arrows mentor in KwaZulu-Natal likely to count in his favour.
The source added:
“They have received so many CVs even from outside the country. I am not sure if Steve also sent his CV or if they are head hunting him, but he is a firm favourite with the club’s management.”
The article revealed that it would be difficult for Khompela to join, with contractual obligations at the Brazilians likely to hamper the move.
He had also been rumoured to have been approached by Orlando Pirates earlier in this season, but Sundowns - where his contract will end in 2024 - was said to have blocked this.
The piece concluded by stating that Usuthu will have to fork out big bucks to activate his release clause if they are really interested in having him.

FootballAmazulu is still targeting a second-place finish in DStv Premiership according to coach Brandon Truter
It seems highly unlikely, but Amazulu is still targeting a runners-up finish in the DStv Premiership.
As reported by Sports Brief, this is the aim of interim coach Brandon Truter following the bright start he has made at the Durban-based side.
Usuthu defeated both Baroka FC and Maritzburg United 1-0 respectively since the sacking of Benni McCarthy at the beginning of April.
