Benni McCarthy’s Amazulu side has their first points in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.

Usuthu beat Horoya Athletic Club 1-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban thanks to a brilliant finish by Luvuyo Memela.

The midfielder produced something akin to a Bobby Firmino or Cristiano Ronaldo finish, as he neatly spun, and with his back to goal, neatly flicked the ball behind him and into the net, Sports Brief monitored.

The finish came after some nice build-up play by Amazulu, with Augustine Mulenga drilling in the low cross which Memela scored.

Amazulu should have doubled their lead in the first half when Mulenga once again put in a beautiful cross into the box which found the head of Abraham Majok. The striker though put the header just wide.

The rest of the goal threats came from the Guinean champions as Horoya AC looked to claw back an equalizer. They went close to getting that goal when Morlaye Sylla hit the crossbar. Amazulu produced a gutsy display of defending, especially in the second half, but often made things more difficult for themselves.

As the commentators noted, Amazulu went on a bit of a suicide mission in the second half as they gave the ball away in the wrong places or didn’t clear their lines when they should have.

Goalkeeper, Veli Mothwa had to work overtime to keep his side in front. Not only did Amazulu have to do some desperate defending, but they were also forced into making a few unnecessary tackles. Usuthu ended the game having picked up five yellow cards.

With five minutes of time added on, Amazulu fought valiantly to see out the win and jump to second in Group B, three points behind Raja Casablanca.

Horoya Athletic Club is ready to take on Amazulu, Guinean champions expect a tough encounter in South Africa

In other Amazulu news, Horoya Athletic Club or Horoya AC are expecting a tough encounter when they take on the Ususthu in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Horoya AC and Amazulu both come into the encounter on the back of defeats in their opening group games. Amazulu were beaten 1-0 by Raja Casablanca while Horoya AC was beaten by El Setif.

Despite Amazulu losing their opening match, Horoya AC coach, Lamine N'Diaye believes the South African team will be a tough encounter. According to Soccer Laduma, N’Diaye said that just because Amazulu had lost their opening game, didn’t make their performance a bad one.
