  • Hearts of Oak have completed a one-year deal for ex-Asante Kotoko right-back Samuel Inkoom, according to the club's Twitter account
  • Inkoom previously played for Hearts of Oak's staunch rivals Asante Kotoko, where he became a cult hero
  • He was part of the victorious Ghana under 20 side that conquered Africa and the World in 2009, where Ghana became the first African country to win the FIFA U20 World Cup

Defending Ghana Premier League champions Accra Hearts of Oak have stolen a march on archenemy Asante Kotoko with the acquisition of fullback Samuel Inkoom.

The marauding right-back has reportedly inked a one-year deal with the Accra-based heavyweights.

The native of Takoradi impressed the technical handlers of Hearts of Oak after several weeks of training with the reigning league champions.

The Phobians took to Twitter to hint at his imminent acquisition ahead of the Super Clash against sworn rivals Asante Kotoko.

Inkoom, 32, who has been unattached after the expiration of his contract with Georgian outfit FC Torpedo Kutaisi since December 2021, joins Hearts of Oak on a free transfer.

He has previously played for a host of clubs on the local scene but made a name for himself with Asante Kotoko, where he won the domestic league crown before heading to Swiss outfit FC Basel.

Samuel Inkoom will be walking in the footsteps of former Inter Milan and AC Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari as the diminutive fullback seeks to relaunch his nomadic career.

Hearts of Oak will hope the acquisition of Inkoom will be a good omen for them as they head to Kumasi for the second instalment of the Super Clash against fierce rivals Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, April 10.

Inkoom eyes return to Ghana Premier League

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Black Stars defender Samuel Inkoom is eyeing a return to the Ghana Premier League before he retires from active football.

The 32-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract ended with Georgia club, FC Torpedo Kutaisi in December last year.

Inkoom played for Asante Kotoko and won the Ghana Premier League with the Porcupine Warriors before he departed for Europe in 2009.
