Real Madrid legend Marcelo is reportedly considering retiring at the end of the ongoing season.
The 33-year-old's contract with the La Liga giants is set to expire in the summer, and there are no positive signs of having a renewal.
The Brazilian has fallen down the pecking order at the club, managing just 140 minutes of action this term under Carlo Ancelotti.
SunSport reports this has seen Marcelo viewed as surplus to requirements, sparking speculation he could depart Real at the end of the season.
It was initially rumoured the Real skipper could move to Fluminense in his native home country of Brazil.
However, that looks unlikely, with Marca claiming the defender's loyalty for the Los Blancos may see him retire instead rather than join a different club.
The Brazilian started his career at Fluminense but was snapped up by Real Madrid after just a year.
He has gone on to enjoy an illustrious 17-year trophy-laden career with the Madrid side.
The defender formed a big part of the club's recent success both domestically and at the continental stage.
He was part of the team that won four Champions League titles in five years and has also won the La Liga five times.
In total, Marcelo has 23 winners' medals with Real and could add to the haul this season as the Spanish giants are currently topping the standings with an eight-point advantage.
