Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced the highest number of players selected in the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) Women’s CAF Team of the Year for 2021.
Barcelona’s Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Osinachi Ohale and Ngozi Okobi are the Nigerians recognized by IFFHS who had an outstanding 2021 to merit a place in the African team of the year.
Oshoala was a key member of the Barcelona side that won the treble in Europe that includes UEFA Women’s Champions League, the Primera División and Copa de la Reina while also contributing lots of goals to the team’s success.
Chiamaka Nnadozie was another outstanding performer in the 2020/2021 as she kept an impressive six clean sheets for Paris FC in France.
Ngozi Okobi who is a four-time African champion continues to be a key player for Eskilstuna United and has racked up over 100 appearances combined in the Sweish Damallsvenskan for two different clubs as reported by All Nigeria Soccer.
Meanwhile Osinachi Ohale who now has a reputation as a goal-scoring defender totaled four goals for her Spanish team Deportivo Alaves Gloriosas.
The Punch reports that Nigeria had a member in each key position in the team as a goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward were selected from the Super Falcons squad in the ceremonial IFFHS Women's CAF Best XI of 2021.
Other key players to be named in the IFFHS Women’s CAF Team of the Year include Cameroon’s duo of Gabrielle Onguene and Jeannette Yango, South Africa’s duo of Thembi Kgatlana and Janine Van Wyk, Ghana’s Evelyn Badu, Malawi’s Tabitha Chawinga and Zambia’s Barbra Banda
