Premier League club Manchester United Cristiano Ronaldo have continued their long-standing tradition of sending gifts and messages to staff and patients across hospitals located in Greater Manchester.

The Red Devils were unable to personally visit the hospitals due to the continued spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant.

But that did not deter the club as they delivered presents to them and then players recorded special video messages to encourage staff and patients at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, The Christie and Francis House Children’s Hospice.

Mirror are reporting that both the men’s and women’s teams splashed a number of United-themed presents including hats, shirts, and annuals to lift spirits around the hospitals for the festive period.

Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo also took part of the exercise and then said:

"It is unfortunate that we could not visit the hospitals this year, as it is something I really liked to do when I was last here at Old Trafford.
"It’s so important that we give our support to the young people at this special time of year and it’s an honour for me to be part of this again."

Ronaldo's teammate Scott McTominay explained how important it is to continue this tradition around this time of year.

The Scotland international added:

"Christmas time is such a special time of year; it's important for the families and the kids to feel loved and feel that warmth around Christmas.
"The best part of being a footballer is seeing the smiles on fans faces."

Messi heads to Argentina to spend Christmas

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain stars who are from Argentina have returned home to enjoy the festive season.

It was gathered that superstar Lionel Messi was joined by his teammates Angle Di Maria and Mauro Icardi as they all returned home to spend the yuletide season.

The French Ligue 1 begins its winter break as PSG will not have a game until January 9 when they take on the impressive Lyon.

Barcelona make move to sign Aubameyang

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Spanish club Barcelona are reportedly making a move to land embattled Arsenal, star Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, to the Camp Nou in January.

However, the Catalan club which is currently enmeshed in financial crisis might not be able to pay the player’s £350,000 current weekly.

It was gathered that the Spanish club are already monitoring the player’s situation after he was ordered to train alone since he was stripped of the captaincy.
