Frank Lampard has revealed he was told by Jose Mourinho that he is now a ‘real manager’ after being sacked by Chelsea.
Lampard was dismissed by Chelsea in January 2021, after serving slightly over a year as Chelsea boss, having been appointed in July 2019.
After his dismissal from Stamford Bridge, Lampard revealed to Sky Sports that he bumped into Mourinho in London and the Portuguese tactician, gave him some encouraging, yet ironic words.
"It was Covid so he had a mask on and he whipped it off and before that when he was at Tottenham me and him were a little bit like that [at loggerheads] I'm not going to lie," Lampard told Gary Neville in the Overlap.
"He came over to me and gave me a big hug and said, 'Now you're a real manager.'"
Mourinho is no stranger to the sack as he has been dismissed as manager four times in the Premier League, twice with Chelsea, and once with Manchester United before his latest dismissal at Tottenham Hotspur.
Lampard played under Mourinho at Chelsea and helped the gaffer win two Premier League titles, including a first in 2005.
In total, the pair won three Premier League titles together as well as the FA Cup, three League cups and a community shield across Jose Mourinho’s two spells as Chelsea manager.
More recently, however, the duo came together as managers and it got heated last year during a Carabao Cup clash.
In September 2020, Mourinho and Lampard were involved in a touchline spat, with the two managers exchanging words in full glare of the cameras. At the time of the spat, Lampard’s Chelsea were losing 1-0 to Spurs.
