Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has expressed delight having finally met with former Super Eagles midfielder Jay Jay Okocha who also had a stint with Turkish club Fenerbahce, The Cable reports.
On Wednesday night, December 8, Okocha received huge recognition in Turkey hours before his former side Fenerbahce and Frankfurt clashed in the Europa League.
The former midfield maestro was duly recognised in Turkey ahead of the game which held at the Ulker Stadyumu Fenerbahce Sukru Saracoglu Spor Kompleksi.
President Ali Koc of Fernabahce hosted the 48-year-old and a number of Frankfurt executives to a dinner on Wednesday night as he remained a cult hero at both clubs.
Earlier in the year, Ozil admitted that the ex-Nigerian international was his idol while growing up, making the declaration during an interactive Q&A session with his followers on Twitter.
Okocha remains a cult hero in Turkey
Ozil who was born in Germany to a Turkish family said that his favourite club was Fenerbahce as a young chap, where Super Eagles legend Okocha had spent two years.
Jay Jay moved to Turkish outfit Fenerbahce later in 1996 where he played 62 league matches and scored 30 goals before he departed in 1998.
And more than two decades later, the 48-year-old returned to the club as he was honoured before a Europa League clash and Ozil is delighted to meet with his ‘idol’.
The ex-Germany international wrote on Instagram:
“What an honour to meet one of my childhood idols: Jay Jay Okocha. It's been great talking to you my friend.”

Okocha sends Premier League advice to Liverpool
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Premier League club Liverpool will lose Mohamed Salah to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January, but Nigerian legend Jay Jay Okocha says the Reds can cope, Liverpool Echo reports.
Salah will return to the national team to help in their quest for AFCON title and Liverpool will also lose Senegalese international Sadio Mane to the competition.
Okocha believes Jurgen Klopp’s side have enough players to continue their blistering form in the English topflight so far this season.
