Barcelona star, Sergio Busquets, has tendered an apology to the club's fans following their embarrassing Champions League exit against Liverpool.

The Spanish champions won the semifinal first leg encounter 3-0 against Liverpool at Camp Nou, but they suffered a 4-0 defeat in the return leg at Anfield.

Lionel Messi and his teammates were also sent out of the Champions League last season in this same version after beating Roma 4-1 in the first leg at Camp Nou.

But the Italian giants defeated the Catalans 3-0 in the second leg to send them out of the championship.

"They have been better than us. I apologize.
"After what happened in Rome, this happened again. It's tough to go out like this after the first-leg result.
"Liverpool have been smarter than us, they were faster. I think we had chances to score the goal we needed, but it wasn't meant to be today,'' Sergio Busquets told Movistar.

Jurgen Klopp's men will now face the winner between Tottenham and Ajax in the final of the 2018/19 Champions League.

Earlier, had reported Lionel Messi was left behind at Anfield by the Barcelona team bus after their UCL defeat as the Spanish side quickly left for the airport.
