Diogo Jota Nets Brace, Van Dijk on the Score Sheet As Liverpool Wallop Southampton in Premier League Tie

Liverpool put up a 5-star performance on Saturday afternoon as they humiliated Southampton 4-0, in what could be described as a one-sided affair.

Jurgen Klopp's side began the match on a blazing note and opened the scoring in the 2nd minute following an excellent build up play straight through the middle as Andrew Robertson pulled back to Diogo Jota who tucked home.

The hosts found the back of the net again in the 11th minute after Robertson delivered a set-piece into the area before Mane scored, but the strike was ruled offside.

In the 18th minute, Mohamed Salah came close when after transitions were just crippling Southampton and the No. 11 posed lots of problems, his shot just wide of the upright.

And it was 2-0 in the 32nd minute following a combination by Henderson, Salah and Jota which worked a charm before the Portuguese completed his brace.

It didn't take long before it was 3-0 as Liverpool extended their lead courtesy Thiago Alcantara who found the back of the net; before they went for the break.

In the 51st minute, Fabinho played a sensational spin away from danger, just so fluid on the ball and aware of his surroundings.

And it was 4-0 in the 52nd minute, with the goal coming from a beautiful effort from Sadio Mane who had to be tipped out for a corner, and it was not Van Dijk's head, it was a low driven effort from Trent's corner.

Liverpool piled more pressure against the Saints in the second half, but they somehow could not add to the tally. It ended; Liverpool 4-0 Southampton.

In the other match, Arsenal bounced back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 win over Newcastle United in Eddie Howe’s first game at the dugout.

The Gunners were thoroughly dominant from the start and proved too strong for the Magpies, who are facing a real prospect of relegation despite their change of ownership.

Bukayo Saka, who was excellent throughout the game, put the Gunners on course to victory in the second half with a classy finish, before Gabriel Martinelli put the game beyond Eddie Howe’s reach 93 seconds after coming on.
