Ivory Coast football legends Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure have both congratulated Samuel Eto'o on being elected as the new president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), Soccerladuma reports.
Samuel Eto'o was elected the new president on Saturday, December 11, after getting 43 votes compared to Seidou Mbombo Njoya's 31.
The Cameroon football legend had an illustrious playing career and will now be at the helm of affairs in football administration for his country.
This has prompted Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and Man City icon Yaya Toure to send in words of encouragement to Eto'o as he gets ready to take up his new role.
Toure described the election of Eto'o as "wonderful news" with Drogba noting this offers a "glimmer of hope for the renaissance of African football."
"Congratulations to Samuel Eto'o for this election at the head of the Cameroonian football federation. Glimmers of hope for the renaissance of African football," Drogba tweeted.
"Congratulations President! Fantastic to see my friend Samuel Eto’o flying high and elected as the Fecafoot president. Wonderful news,” Toure added in a separate tweet.
Samuel Eto'o reunites with Ronaldinho
Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported former Barcelona superstars Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto’o came together in an emotional reunion at the Qatar Grand Prix.
Eto'o gave fans a glimpse of the reunion on social media as he shared a video of him embracing the Brazilian icon.
The pair enjoyed loads of success while at Barcelona, winning La Liga titles and the Championship.
At one point, they formed one of the most potent attacks in world football which also consisted of a young Lionel Messi, who was slowly coming of age.
They scored 200 goals between them during their time at Barcelona in one of the club’s most successful spells.
