FootballCAF Champions League: Kenyan side Tusker bundled out after 4-0 thrashing in Egypt
- Tusker have been bundled out of the CAF Champions League after a 4-0 mauling by El Zamalek in Egypt
- The Brewers lost the tie 5-0 after initially losing 1-0 in the first leg
- Things went awry for the Kenyan outfit in the second minute, when experienced defender Charles Momanyi had to be taken off with an injury
Kenyan representatives at the CAF Champions League Tusker FC were bundled out of the competition after receiving a 4-0 thrashing from their Egyptian counterparts Zamalek at the second round.
Tusker already had an uphill task going into the clash at Borg el Arab stadium in Alexandria, Egypt, having initially lost the first leg of the fixture 1-0 in Nairobi.
And the Kenyan club was stunned into silence early with two quickfire goals from Youseff Obama and Seiffedine Jaziri which set the Egyptian outfit on a victory course.
For the first goal, Obama made Tusker goalkeeper Patrick Matasi pay for an error as the ball was floated from a set-piece.
After failing to collect the ball, the experienced Matasi allowed Obama to head home from a goal-mouth scramble.
From then, Robert Matano’s side had one foot out of the elite competition as it needed them to find four goals from somewhere and hope the dangerous Zamalek do not score again.
That, of course, did not happen, and the home side found their third goal in the 73rd minute courtesy of Achraf Bencharki before Obama sealed the win with his second goal of the night two minutes later to condemn the brewers to a 5-0 aggregate loss.
For Tusker, they might have taken a mauling in the elite CAF Champions League, but they will have the chance to right their wrongs in the Confederations Cup, a competition where they will get a two-legged playoff match.
If they get past the playoffs, they will officially be in the group stage of the second-tier tournament.
