- Real Valladolid vs Barcelona ended 3-0 in favour of Ronald Koeman's side
- Clement Lenglet, Martin Braithwaite and Lionel Messi all scored a goal each
- Barcelona move to fifth position following their seventh win of the season
Barcelona returned to winning ways following their comfortable 2-0 win over Real Valladolid in a midweek La Liga fixture played at the Estadio Jose Zorrilla.
Lionel Messi finally broke Pele's record adding his name to the scoresheet along with Clement Lenglet and Martin Braithwaite.
There were lots of chances created by Barca in the first period as Messi was unlucky to score after Jordi Masip made an acrobatic save from the Argentine's left-foot shot.
Masip was also equal to the task after he intercepted a goal-bound pass from Messi to Jordi Alba as the home side were defending in sixes and sevens.
The breakthrough finally came in the 21st minute as Messi's pin-point cross was nodded home by Lenglet to make it 1-0.
It was 2-0 in the 35th minute as Braithwaite was on hand to guide the ball into the net from a Serginho Dest's low cross.
Five minutes after the hour mark, Pedri's through ball found Messi and the 33-year-old made the most of it with a clinical finish to make it 3-0.
Messi was also denied by Masip on two occasions in the later stages of the match as Ronald Koeman's men settled for a 3-0 win and moved to fifth on the log with 24 points.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng also reported that Lionel Messi looked like the greatest talent that ever played football in 2012 when he scored 91 goals for club and country in the calendar year.
The Argentine played a total of 69 matches for his national team and Barcelona that year and wrote his name in the history book at the age of 25.
Messi scored 79 of the goals for La Blaugrana and notched up 12 for the Albicelste to break Gerd Muller's 40-year record of 85 strikes in a year for Germany and Bayern Munich.
