Robert Lewandowski would have to wait another season to land his first Ballon d'Or award after leaked reports show that the Bayern Munich striker finished in third position, Sport Bible, Twitter.

Despite enjoying a fantastic calendar year, the Polish striker is set to miss out on the individual accolade once again.

The whole story about Lewandowski coming 3rd

The 33-year-old broke Gerd Muller's all-time goalscoring record in the Bundesliga of 40 goals and has continued from where he stopped this season.

The current campaign has seen the ex-Dortmund forward score 25 goals in 19 games across all competitions so far.

However, Spanish journalist Josep Pedrerol claims Lewandowski will be finishing third behind Real Madrid star Karim Benzema who would come second.

Benzema's return to the national team after a six-year exile saw France lift the second edition of the Nations League tournament.

The 33-year-old is having the best start to his La Liga campaign with Real scoring ten goals in 12 matches.

However, if the claims made by the Spanish journalist is true Lewandowski will surely feel aggrieved to have missed out for the second time.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that there are over 800, 000 players and staff of the game who play the game from over 50 countries around the globe.

However, Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo who was named second best last year slipped to seventh position despite his exploits at Old Trafford this season.

Former Ballon d'Or winner willing to give Lewandowski his award if he does not win

Legit.ng also reported that veteran Ballon d’Or winner Luis Suarez Miramontes is willing to give his award to Robert Lewandowski if the Polish international does not win the accolade this year.

The Bayern Munich striker has been in astronomical form in recent years and is showing no signs of slowing down as he bagged a hat trick in his latest match in the Champions League against Benfica.

Lewandowski controversially missed out on the Ballon d’Or in 2020, despite bagging a staggering 55 goals as Bayern went on to win a treble.
