In an unforgiving game for Marcelo Bielsa’s team, Joe Gelhardt thought he had helped his side to an unlikely equaliser with a low shot in the 83rd minute.

The game sparked to life in the first half when Leeds United took the lead from the penalty spot after 28 minute.

Marcos Alonso was adjudged to have tripped Daniel James and the resulting spot kick was converted by Raphinha.

Chelsea fought back in the first half, and Mason Mount levelled matters with a first time finish from Alonso’s cross.

In the second half, it was Chelsea’s turn to be awarded a penalty as Rapinha was penalized for a sliding tackle on Rudiger, and Jorginho made no mistake from a few yards out.

Teenager Joe Gelhardt ended up levelling matters with seven minutes to go with his first touch from the bench, but it was Chelsea who had the final say as they were awarded a penalty once again late on.

Rudiger was at the centre of the controversy once again as he was brought down by Mateusz Klich, and Jorginho slotted in his second penalty of the day to sneak all three points for his side.

It was not the most excellent performance for Thomas Tuchel’s side, but the Blues will be glad to have walked away with all three points against an attacking side such as Leeds.

Notably, Tuchel had to improvise in midfield in the absence of Matteo Kovacic and N’golo Kante, as Reece James was allowed to roam freely down the middle.

The win helped Chelsea stay within touching distance of Manchester City and Liverpool, who also won their respective games on Saturday.

Ronaldo's penalty enough to give Man United three points

In the other game, Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty deep in the second half earned his Manchester United a crucial 1-0 victory over Norwich City on Saturday, December 11.

After a host of changes during the midweek Champions League fixture against Young Boys, Rangnick restored his natural starting XI for the Norwich game.

But despite the strong squad, United made a sluggish start as they struggled to break down Norwich, a side that has conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season.
