Catalan giants Barcelona have officially announced club legend Xavi Hernandez as the new manager following the sacking of Ronald Koeman last week, Marca reports.
Koeman was relieved of his duties as manager following their 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano in La Liga, with the result which left the Catalans in ninth position on the table.
Barcelona then turned to Xavi who was managing Qatari club Al Saad and after negotiations the former player agreed to return to camp Nou.
And on Friday afternoon, November 5, Al Saad announced that Xavi has left his role as manager as the decision was mutual.
And hours later, Barcelona released a statement confirming Xavi as their new club manager. The statement via the club’s official website said:
“FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with Xavi Hernández for him to become first team coach for the rest of the current season and two more seasons.
“Xavi Hernández, a youth team product at Barça, has left his current club, Al-Sadd of Qatar, after talks held over the last few days with the owners of the club.
“It is expected that Xavi Hernández will arrive in Barcelona this weekend and that on Monday 8 November his presentation as new FC Barcelona first team coach will take place in an event open to the public at Camp Nou.
“After the event Xavi Hernández will appear in a press conference in the Ricard Maxenchs press room.
“Shortly we will detail the agenda for the presentation of Xavi Hernández as the new coach of the first team.”
