FootballBarcelona fire Ronald Koeman following disappointing defeat to Rayo Vallecano
- Ronald Koeman suffered double tragedy after losing his job following Barcelona's defeat to Rayo Vallecano
- The defeat pushes the Catalans to ninth position on the table as their struggles across competitions continue
- It is however left to be seen who they will hire as replacement for the Dutchman with 28 league games left to play this season
Ronald Koeman's reign as Barcelona manager came to an abrupt end just 10 games into the 2021-22 campaign.
The Catalans fired the Dutchman following his side's 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano in Wednesday's Spanish League encounter at Estadio de Vallecas.
Former Manchester United star Radamel Falcao scored the only goal that ensured Koeman was relieved of his duties by the Blaugrana.
The Camp Nou club currently occupies the ninth position on the league table after the disappointing defeat to fifth position Vallecano.
Not only are Barcelona struggling in the domestic league, their campaign on the continent has been nothing to write home about having won just one in their last three group games.
What FC Barcelona said
The club confirm their decision through a statement released on their official website on Wednesday, October 27, saying:
"FC Barcelona has dismissed Ronald Koeman tonight as coach of the first team. The president of the club, Joan Laporta, has informed him after the defeat against Rayo Vallecano.
"Koeman will say goodbye to the squad on Thursday at the Ciutat Esportiva. FC Barcelona wishes to thank him for his service to the Club and wishes him all the best in his professional career."
The 58-year-old took over at the Catalans in August 2020 after signing a two year deal but he will not be able to see out his contract after his employers ended decided to end their relationship early.
