Kenya and Tanzania were the two other teams pooled in the same group as the two finalists.

Kenyans on Twitter felt that Kenyans owed Harambee Stars an apology, as the two teams that the East Africans faced are now in the final, proving Sebastien Migne's men were out of their league.
"It is an Algeria vs Senegal final. The two teams that beat Kenya in group stage. We owe Harambee Stars an apology," journalist Linus Kaikai said.
Some argued the outstanding performance Senegal and Algeria delivered in their road to the final was adequate proof to show that Stars were in the group of death.

"Having played Algeria and Senegal, Harambee Stars can proudly say they finished 3rd best in AFCON 2019," one Kenyan fan confidently claimed.
Both East African Nations recorded defeats against Aliou Cisse's and Djamel Belmadi's squads, and were unable to score against both teams — let alone make it beyond the group stage.
Kenya's AFCON campaign began with a baptism of fire after the Desert Foxes stunned Harambee Stars 2-0.

Later, the Lions of Teranga mauled Sebastien Migne's men 3-0, shattering any hope of entry to the round of 16 as one of the best losers.
Senegal and Algeria lock horns in the final on Friday, July 19, at the Cairo International stadium.
