Mikel Arteta remained coy when asked whether Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would feature for Arsenal in their next Premier League clash against Leeds United.
Aubameyang was not considered for team selection on Wednesday, as Arsenal ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against West Ham in a win that sprung them to the top four.
That was the second straight game which Aubameyang was conspicuously absent from in a week that has seen the Gabon international lose the club captaincy.
After the win over the Hammers, Arteta was full of praise for his youngsters, whom he said had impressive chemistry on the pitch.
"They were fully focused. They wanted to show how strong we are as a team. The performance, the attitude and the commitment they showed today is exactly what we are as a club." Arteta said.
In the same interview, the gaffer was asked by BT sport about the Aubameyang situation to which he replied:
"He wasn't eligible for this game and that's it. This game is gone. We will discuss it in the near future."
Why is Aubameyang facing punishment?
The Gabon international, 32, was initially dropped for the Southampton game after missing training on Friday, December 10.
After the win against Southampton, Arsenal would go on to release a statement saying Aubameyang would no longer be the club’s captain.
Arteta was quoted in the statement saying:
"The decision that we have taken as a club is very clear. It is because we believe that he has failed to be committed at the level that we all expect and agreed.
