Arsenal bounced back to winning ways with a comprehensive performance that saw off Southampton at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners were without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whom Arteta revealed was absent because of disciplinary reasons.
That did not matter, though, as the Gunners were impressive all afternoon, as stand-in skipper Alexandre Lacazette opened the scoring in the 21st minute after a sleek move from his side.
Martin Odegaard then doubled his side’s lead six minutes later with a header from close range coming from Kieran Tierney’s cross.
A thoroughly dominant performance was capped up with a goal from Gabriel in the second half to seal the victory.
The hosts created a host of chances throughout the game, with Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka both striking the post.
Takehiro Tomiyasu also forced a fine save from emergency Southampton signing Willy Caballero.
The victory came at the right time for Arsenal, who needed a bounce-back, after back to back defeats.
For Saints, Ralph Hasenhuttl had to improvise as he handed 40-year old Caballero his debut in the absence of Fraser Foster.
The visitors did not look like scoring for most of the game, and were restricted to long-range efforts.
United, Chelsea, Liverpool all win through penalties
In the other matches on Saturday, the top three sides were all handed crucial penalties which proved crucial to the overall outcome of their respective games.
Manchester City edged a stubborn Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 thanks to a Raheem Sterling penalty, while Liverpool had the same fate as Mo Salah’s spot-kick saw off Aston Villa in Steven Gerrard’s return to Anfield.
