Aston Villa have sacked manager Dean Smith after five straight defeats in the Premier League.

Since beating Man United 1-0 win at Old Trafford on Saturday, September 25, Aston Villa have lost five games on a bounce in the Premier League.

These defeats came again Tottenham, Wolves, Arsenal, West Ham, and most recently Southampton.

Villa chief executive Christian Purslow said after Dean Smith's sack: "After a good start to last season, this year we have not seen the continuous improvement in results, performances and league position which we have all been looking for.

"For this reason, we have decided to make a change now to allow time for a new head coach to make an impact.

"The process of replacing Dean will now begin and the club will update supporters in due course.

Smith is the fifth Premier League boss to lose his job this season after Xisco Munoz (Watford), Steve Bruce (Newcastle), Nuno Espirito Santo (Tottenham), and Daniel Farke (Norwich).

He was appointed in October 2018 and helped Villa earn a promotion back to the Premier League in his first season in charge at the club.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Norwich City have sacked Daniel Farke as manager despite helping the club secure their first victory of the season.

The newly-promoted side stunned Brentford 2-1 in their match week 11 but Farke still paid the price for their poor run of results.

The German was appointed Norwich boss back in 2017 and managed to lead them back to the Premier League in his second season in charge.

However, they were relegated to the Championship straight after their promotion before regaining topflight status again during the 2020/21 season.

However, the Carrow Road-based outfit have been struggling to post favourable results since their promotion and were winless in 10 of their opening matches of the season.

The woeful run of results left them battling relegation before they finally had their first taste of victory over Brentford. But that could not save Farke's job, with Norwich announcing his departure soon after the win.
