Watford manager Claudio Ranieri has suggested Man United should not sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite the Red Devils enduring a disappointing run of results in recent weeks.

The Red Devils were completely outplayed by Ranieri's charges who stunned them 4-1 at home.

Ole on the brink

The result is understood to have plunged Solskjaer's future at the Theatre of Dreams into uncertainty, with reports suggesting the board has resolved to axe the Norwegian.

A crisis meeting was held shortly after the Watford defeat and a decision made to get rid of the former Molde boss.

However, Ranieri, who was recently appointed Watford boss has asked United chiefs to be calm and take time to consider his counterpart's future.

The experienced Italian tactician noted football has its fair share of challenges, urging United to allow Solskjaer to continue with his rebuilding plans.

Prior to the clash, Solskjaer, during a press conference, assured Manchester United fans that they would see a reaction after the derby defeat to Manchester City, but they performed woefully.

Ranieri's stance

The Watford manager told reporters at his post-match press conference after the huge victory over the Red Devils via Metro:

"I think he must be calm and also the chairman must be calm because football is up and down.
"I understand that United can’t do up and down, but he must have the time to build his action and build his team."
