Tottenham’s Premier League game against Brighton scheduled for Sunday, December 12 has been postponed following a number of positive COVID-19 cases among players and staff.
On Thursday, Spurs’s Europa Conference League game against Rennes was called off after it was disclosed that eight players and five members of the Tottenham staff had tested positive.
Further reports from BBC indicates the club’s training centre had to be shut down on Wednesday due to the outbreak.
It is understood Spurs asked for the match to be postponed during a Premier League board meeting that took place on Thursday.
"The Premier League Board has taken the decision to postpone the game following guidance from medical advisers, with the health of players and staff the priority,” a statement from the Premier League said.
"The postponed fixture will be rescheduled in due course and the Premier League wishes a quick recovery to those with Covid-19."
The North London club have already had one Premier League clash postponed, the game against Burnley on November 28, which was rescheduled due to bad weather.
EPL clubs to go back to basics
Meanwhile, Premier League clubs have been urged to revert back to emergency measures in a bid to curb the sudden rise in COVID-19 cases.
The protocols will include social distancing, wearing masks in indoor areas and medical staff will be required to wear full PPE when attending to players.
Leicester City is the other club on the verge of a COVID-19 crisis as manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed up to eight players failed to travel to Napoli as they were self-isolating.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson also recently announced that the government as introducing a ‘Plan B’ to curb the spread of the virus.
This will entail football fans showing proof of double vaccination or a negative test.
