The Vanguard had earlier reported of Rohr’s sacking thereby ending the German’s long reign in charge as the NFF was not convinced he was the right man to lead the national team.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick during a press parley on Wednesday disclosed the Nigerian Football Federation had made contact with former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho and ex-Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger seeking their advice and recommendation on who should be the next permanent manager of the Super Eagles.

“I also spoke with Arsene. Arsene is our technical director at FIFA. I had an interface with him about some of these coaches. And of course [we spoke to ]Mourinho. I am not going to tell you that we did not speak to Mourinho,” Pinnick explained, less than two weeks after Gernot Rohr was dismissed as the team’s coach.
“These are some of the best coaches in the world. And there is nothing wrong with it because he [Wenger] is equally concerned just the way we are.”

Technical director of the NFF and former Super Eagles defender, Augustine Eguavoen has been placed in temporary charge of the team until a new coach is announced with speculations suggesting the Under-17 coach will lead the Eagles to next year’s AFCON.
