Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has stated emphatically that the Nigerian squad can win the 2021 African Cup of Nations which will start in Cameroon next month.

The last time the Super Eagles of Nigeria won the AFCON title was in 2013 when late Stephen Keshi took the team to South Africa beating Burkina Faso in the final.

Former Enugu Rangers attacking midfielder Sunday Mba scored the only goal that gave Super Eagles the win in the encounter and their third AFCON title in history.

Interestingly, late coach Stephen Keshi also won the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria when he was playing in what remains incredible record.

According to the latest report on Complete Sports and GOAL, Maduka Okoye who is expected to make his debut AFCON explained that he wants to return to his club with the title.

When did Okoye start playing for Super Eagles?

Maduka Okoye has been playing for the Super Eagles of Nigeria since 2019 and the 22-year-old has featured in 11 games so far.

Earlier, Sportsbrief had reported how Amaju Pinnick who is the president of the Nigerian Football Federation has stated clearly that there will be an announcement of a new Super Eagles coach in few days to come.

This latest development means that a foreign coach will be named and he will take the Super Eagles of Nigeria to the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Recently, the Nigerian Football Federation announced the sacking of Gernot Rohr after five years in charge of the Super Eagles and Augustine Eguavoen was named as replacement on interim capacity.
