Kenya Climbs Two Places up In Latest FIFA Rankings, Placed 102nd

• Globally, Belgium still tops the standings, with Brazil, France, England, and Argentina completing the top five slots

National football team Harambee Stars has been ranked position 102 in the latest FIFA rankings announced by the governing body on Thursday, December 23.

The position is Kenya's best this year, having moved two places up from the previous ranking.

Stars' improved performances against neighbours Uganda and Rwanda in their 2022 World Cup qualifiers back in November are understood to be responsible for the favourable ranking.

Kenya held Uganda to a 1-1 draw in Kampala in one of the qualifiers before capping their campaign with an encouraging 2-1 win over Rwanda in Nairobi.

Meanwhile, regionally, Uganda continues to lead in the FIFA rankings, with the country placed 82nd globally.

In Africa, Senegal is still the best ranked, with the West African nation placed 20th in the world.

Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia complete the top four slots in the continent, with Algeria's recent triumph in the FIFA Arab Cup helping them leapfrog Tunisia into third continentally.

Globally, Belgium remains the best-placed country, topping the rankings for the fourth consecutive year.

Brazil is placed second ahead of 2018 World Cup winners, France, with England and Argentina sealing the top five slots.

Wanyama wants ex-players at FKF

Earlier, Sports Brief reported ex-Kenyan international Victor Wanyama has called for former footballers to take charge at the helm of affairs at the Football Kenya Federation.

Football management in the country is currently under the leadership of a caretaker committee appointed by the sports ministry after the disbandment of the FKF.

Wanyama now believes the time is ripe for former players to be entrusted with the leadership of the federation, insisting they have the capacity to build the game.
