Former Nigerian captain Austin Okocha believes Mohamed Salah appears to have overstayed his welcome at Liverpool after a disappointing season.
The Reds won the Premier League for the first time in 30 years last season but are a shadow of themselves this term as they sit sixth on the log with 40 points, 19 behind Manchester City.
Okocha has however urged that the Egyptian join Barcelona if the opportunity presents itself at the end of this season.
The 28-year-old has already admitted earlier this term that he would be delighted to play for either the Catalans or Real Madrid but insisted he is focused on helping Liverpool succeed while he is still at Anfield.
Salah joined the Merseyside outfit in 2017 from Roma and became an instant success for them - helping them to Champions League glory in 2018-19 season and then the EPL title a year later.
The winger who has been linked with a move away from his present club has two more years on his current deal. He currently tops the EPL highest goal scorers chart with 17 goals so far.
Goal reports that Okocha believes it is time the Egypt international left the Premier League side and advised him to pitch his tent with the Spanish giants. Okocha told ONTime Sports, as per Kingfut.
“If there is a chance to join Barcelona, I advise Salah to go there. His energy has run out with Liverpool.
“The situation is now regressing in Liverpool, and Salah must leave the Premier League. If there is any chance to join Barcelona, I advise him to go there.”
Salah will be expected to continue his sparkling performances when Liverpool take on Sheffield United in their next Premier League game on Sunday.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Liverpool star Mohamed Salah leads the chase for the Premier League golden boot award this season having scored 17 goals so far in spite of his side's shambolic displays.
This means the 28-year-old might be winning his third top scorers' gong in the English topflight since he joined the Reds from Roma in 2017.
The attacker has already won the award two times and could become the second-highest winner of the prize in the history of the EPL should he win it this season.
