Former Super Eagles attacking midfielder Mutiu Adepoju has made it clear that current gaffer of the three-time African champions deserved to be praised for Nigeria's latest rise in FIFA ranking.

Recently, the world's football governing body came out with their global monthly ranking in which the Super Eagles of Nigeria were ranked as 32nd best footballing nation.

Nigeria however moved up four places in the latest ranking thanks to their wins over Benin and Lesotho in the 2022 African Cup of nations qualifiers.

Gernot Rohr and his men traveled to Porto Novo to beat Benin Republic last month before coming back home to defeat Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos.

Super Eagles will go into the World Cup qualifiers with boosted morale having picked the ticket to campaign at the 2022 African Cup of nations in Cameroon.

Also, Nigeria are now occupying third position in Africa behind Tunisia and Senegal.

According to the report on Complete Sports, Mutiu Adepoju explained that Gernot Rohr has been able to impact positive changes in the Super Eagles.

“The success of the team in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers has paid off in the FIFA rankings where our Super Eagles are ranked 32nd.
“No doubt there will always be room for improvement, however, the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has impacted positively on the team. The quality of play and understanding among the players shows the togetherness within the team.''

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Nigerian Professional Football League club Enyimba placed a staggering €1million (about N550million) asking price on their forward Anayo Iwuala.

Iwuala who has been impressive in the NPFL this season for the Peoples’ Elephants earned a call up into the national team for the just concluded AFCON qualifiers.

The 22-year-old impressed on his national team debut against the Squirrels of Benin in Porto Novo on March 27 where Nigeria grabbed a late goal through Paul Onuachu to claim all three points.

Iwuala also came in as a substitute three days later in the game against Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere Lagos.

The former KADA City star then returned to his club and delivered a sumptuous assist in Enyimba’s 2-1 home win against Tunisian ES Setif.
