AFC Leopards risk losing team bus to auctioneers over unpaid hotel bills

- The quagmire has seen the club accumulate huge debts and are unable to offset some

- Players are said to have gone for up to three months without pay

Kenya Premier League giants, AFC Leopards, could lose their team bus to auctioneers over outstanding bills owed to a Kakamega hotel.

Leopards are understood to have sunk into a financial crisis following SportPesa's decision to exit the Kenyan market.

The once giant betting firm had been sponsoring Ingwe for three years after the two entities got into a sponsorship deal back in 2016.

The lucrative deal would see SportPesa pump a staggering KSh 45 million annually in exchange of having their corporate name on Leopards' shirts.

However, the firm's move to close shop in the country is said to have thrown Ingwe into financial disarray, with the club racking up several debts including at hotels.

A report by Goal citing sources at the club suggested the KPL side is unable to foot bills, with an unidentified hotel in Kakamega now seeking to repossess the team’s bus to help offset the huge debt.

“We don’t have a place now where we can reside during our matches in Kakamega because most of the hotels we have been using we owe them,” Goal quoted a source at the club.

“In fact, one of the hotels have already sent auctioneers to take our team bus so as they can use it to pay the bill we left after our league match against Chemelil Sugar," the source further divulged.
