England booked their spot in the Euro 2024 semi-finals after defeating Switzerland on penalties on Saturday, July 6.

The Three Lions' performance against the Swiss was not convincing, but they ended their penalty hoodoo to set up a semi-final clash with the Netherlands.

Former England international, Frank Lampard, has suggested that Luke Shaw should start against the Dutch.

Switzerland dominated the second half, which resulted in Breel Embolo's goal in the 75th minute. England fought back and equalised through Bukayo Saka five minutes later, per The Guardian.

Substitutes Cole Palmer, Eberechi Eze and Luke Shaw were brought on but failed to make an impact in normal and extra time.

Gareth Southgate's team are one step away from the final, but the Dutch stand in their way. If they beat Ronald Koeman's side, they will face either France or Spain in the final.

Lampard on who Southgate should start

Southgate has been criticised for his conservative tactics in Germany despite having some of the best players available.

The 1966 world champions were poor in their group matches and were even close to being eliminated by a determined Slovakia side in the Round of 16.

Lampard believes Manchester United left-back, Luke Shaw, is essential to helping England play better.

“I think if he is fit, he starts. He gives England that balance. He looked pretty good when he came on. If he’s fit, I would play him,” he said via Football365.

Switzerland was Shaw's first match at the Euros and his first match since February, per Transfermarkt. It is unclear if he is fit to start against the Netherlands on Wednesday, July 10.

Virgil van Dijk's warning to England

Sports Brief earlier reported on Netherlands captain, Virgil van Dijk, sending a warning to England ahead of their semi-final showdown.

The Liverpool defender said his team are ready to fulfil their dream, and the Three Lions are standing in their way.
