Victor Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli in the coming weeks.

Premier League clubs are reportedly leading the race to secure the signature of the African Footballer of the Year.

Former Nigeria international, Sam Sodje, has said the 25-year-old needs to move to the English top flight because he has the qualities to succeed there.

The Nigerian superstar had an underwhelming 2023/24 campaign in Italy.

After leading Napoli to the Serie A title in the 2022/23 season, Osimhen's numbers dropped significantly, coinciding with his team's poor season.

He scored 17 goals in 32 matches compared to 31 in 39 in the 2022/23 season, which earned him the Serie A Golden Boot, per Transfermarkt.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and PSG have been linked with the striker, but no offer has been reported so far.

Osimhen advised to move to EPL

Speaking to Brila FM, Sodje said Osimhen should leave Italy and move to the Premier League.

"The best thing for Osimhen, personally, I think he should leave Italy and go for a different test that will help him. As long as he deals with his attitude, I'm sure he will be fine," Sodje said.
"We in England want to see him play in the Premier League because his style of play, his seriousness and ruggedness fit the league perfectly. So I'm hoping Chelsea goes through with the deal because he will be very good in the Premier League."

The former Brentford defender had some advice for the striker.

"Osimhen is young. He needs to understand that there is life after sports. We were all once superstars like him, but the earlier you understand that your time comes and goes, the better for you."

The Napoli star has a release clause of £110 million, per Sky Sports.

Sunday Oliseh snubs Osimhen

Sports Brief earlier reported on Nigeria legend, Sunday Oliseh, overlooking Osimhen when naming the current best player of the Nigerian team.

The 1994 AFCON winner selected Atalanta's Ademola Lookman and Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface, as the team's best players.
