Cristiano Ronaldo's international future is in question after Portugal's exit from Euro 2024.

On July 5 at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, France defeated the Selecao 5-3 on penalties following a scoreless 120 minutes in their quarter-final clash.

Cristiano Ronaldo has played his final Euros but the World Cup in two years' time could still be a different story.

The former Manchester United icon had previously stated that this would be his final Euros at the age of 39.

However, this doesn't rule out his participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada in two years.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has previously hinted at his intention to compete in the tournament regardless of his age, per GOAL.

Ronaldo eyes 2026 World Cup?

Ronaldo's performance in Germany came under scrutiny, as he was often seen struggling to win aerial duels - a skill he mastered during his prime.

Despite this, Relevo reports the European Championship is unlikely to be the Real Madrid legend's last appearance, as he is determined to play in the World Cup two years later.

One record still eludes him, becoming the first player in history to appear and score in six editions of the flagship competition.

Portugal boss addresses Ronaldo's international future

In a related publication, Sports Brief reported that Portugal manager Roberto Martinez addressed the challenging question about Ronaldo's future with the national team after their Euro 2024 exit.

Amid increasing calls to exclude the veteran forward, Martinez faces the decision on the veteran's future. When asked about his plans for CR7, the 50-year-old's response was notably non-committal.

Four records Ronaldo broke at Euro 2024

Sports Brief also reported on four records Ronaldo broke at Euro 2024 despite Portugal suffering a quarter-final elimination after a 5-3 penalty shootout loss to France.

The veteran was on course for six records before the Euros but only achieved four due to not scoring at the tournament, summing up a disappointing outing for him.
