Barcelona have suffered their first significant setback in the current European Championship.

Pedri, plagued by injuries recently, fell victim to a rough tackle by Toni Kroos early in Spain’s quarterfinal match against Germany.

The challenge affected Pedri’s left knee, and despite attempting to play on, he was substituted in the eighth minute, tearfully replaced by Dani Olmo.

Will Pedri miss the rest of the Euros?

At halftime, with the score at 0-0, Spanish journalist Alfredo Martinez provided a crucial update on Pedri’s condition.

"Pedri has sustained an internal lateral sprain in his left knee. Additional tests will be conducted to rule out further injuries. His Euros campaign is over."

How long will Pedri be sidelined?

This latest injury could be a significant setback for Barcelona as they prepare for the pre-season under new coach Hansi Flick.

Diario SPORT reports that Pedri might be out for approximately six weeks, depending on the severity of the injury.

Typically, such injuries do not require surgery, so a lengthy absence is unlikely.

If the injury is mild, Pedri could be out for two to six weeks. However, if it’s more severe, he might face up to eight weeks on the sidelines.

Why Barcelona should be concerned

While missing Pedri during the pre-season is a blow, Barcelona has a broader concern – Pedri’s mental health. Since 2021, he has been grappling with recurring injuries, as shown by his emotional reaction on the bench.

For a young player like Pedri, this constant struggle can be incredibly disheartening. Barcelona must manage his recovery carefully, focusing not only on his physical health but also his mental well-being, to ensure he returns with confidence.
