Jamal Musiala had Rodri on the back foot during the first quarter-final clash of the 2024 European Championship between Spain and Germany.

The Bayern Munich forward, who has been one of the standout players in this year's tournament, was at his electrifying best as two of the most decorated teams in Euros history faced off.

In a fiercely contested match, marked by intense tackles and yellow cards, there was little space for skillful players of Musiala's ilk to dominate.

However, the 21-year-old demonstrated why he is widely considered a frontrunner for the player of the tournament and a future Ballon d'Or contender.

Musiala 'destroys' Rodri with electric speed

In a counter-attacking move where he tried to unleash his blistering pace, Rodri attempted to contain him. Yet, Musiala's speed proved too much for the Manchester City midfielder.

Rodri had to resort to an unusual tactic: stopping the dynamic German by grabbing his shorts, leading to a foul.

How fans reacted

@nigertalelol trolled the Manchester City midfielder:

"Musiala cooked Rodri."

@MDjorguensen shared in the sentiments of @nigertalelol:

"Rodri got cooked by Musiala on the pitch."

Another user, @BallNation90, made mockery of the 28-year-old while comparing him to Casemiro:

"And they compared this fraud with Casemiro 😂😂😂😂😂😭. I'm in tears!"

@OG_umaru added:

"Can’t lie, this was funny, Rodri holding on to his dear life, man."

@TalemSeko humorously claimed:

"If it was basketball, there would be no need to clean the floor again; Rodri had done the job already."

How the Spain vs Germany game unfolded?

According to Sportstar, Dani Olmo opened the scoring early in the second half after a thrilling back-and-forth battle.

Florian Wirtz volleyed home a late equaliser, forcing the game into extra time.

But a last-minute header from Mikel Merino sent the host nation out of the tournament, ESPN reports.

Germany coach laments about penalty decision

After the game, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann lamented the decision to deny his side a late penalty in their 2-1 Euro 2024 loss to Spain, as reported by Sports Brief.

In extra time, with the scores tied at 1-1, Musiala's shot at goal hit the outstretched arm of Spain's Marc Cucurella, who was inside the box.
